Digital Vinyl Systems (DVS) have been developed for a DJ to play the digital audio file to your computer physically manipulate a standard CD player or turntable as an interface. Digital vinyl systems retain a hands-on feel of real vinyl, while digital music playback is not available in vinyl. Allow the DJ to scratch and perform other tricks that would not be possible in the traditional keyboard or mouse.
DVS systems, special time-coded vinyl or CD control discs. Audio output is routed to a time code on the first disk A2D audio interface (usually supplied as part of the AV pack), which then sends the digital time code signal to the software. The software then converts the signal to the corresponding changes in the position and the speed of playback of digital files. Audio output of the software is then routed back to the sound card or audio interface, and a DJ mixer can be mixed in the same way as any other audio signal.
The length of the delay between the time code reads the audio playback signal and measures the performance of a digital vinyl system. A typical delay is usually in the range between 6 and 30 milliseconds.
